Logic Pro- Key Commands Tutorial

When running the music production software Logic Pro, the most efficient way to work is by using Key Commands. These are shortcuts, allowing you to accomplish tasks by pressing only one key. This is far easier than scrolling through the various menus such as Preferences, Tools, etc.

The nice thing about Key Commands is you can tailor them to your own liking.  For example, you can set it up so “R” always initiates record. This way, instead of having to click the mouse on on the red record button, you only need to tap “R” on your keyboard.

The steps to assign Key Commands are simple:

1)  Choose Logic Pro>Preferences>Key Commands.
2)  In the Command section is a list of commands such as Play, Pause, Record or Fast Forward.
3)  Select a command, in this example we will use Record.
4)  To the right of the Command section, click the button that reads “Learn by Key Label.”  This button will now be gray, indicating that it is        selected.
5)  Press the desired key. In this case, to make “R” the key command for Record, press the key “R.”

The “R” key will now always initiate Record.
