Living By Routine
Every year as December winds down, people begin to settle on a new years resolution. Resolutions are as common as fireworks, but unfortunately usually come to an end soon after the light show dies. This is a terrible thing, as New Years resolutions are one of the best ways for people to better themselves as well as those around them. Whether one strives to volunteer more hours to charity, or simply lose a few pounds, a serious resolution is an important, positive act that shows strength of character.
When a resolution is fulfilled, it can be an inspiration to everyone around them. The mood of achievement is set and a kind of positive energy bursts forward. This is because someone who accomplishes their goals is content, and happiness wishes happiness on others.
For this reason it is crucial to make a new year's resolutions, and then take it seriously. Everyone who sticks to their goals will become a better person and be an inspiration to others. A cycle of good energy ensues, momentum that can be downtrodden by neither laziness nor gossip. It is a chain of motivation that continues from one person to the next, between family members, friends and finally reaching out to complete strangers.
Often times, people don't see the importance of keeping resolutions or worse, they stop making them altogether. This is sad because it means one has quit trying. They are living by routine, going through the motions of daily life without expectations for anything more.
Even if one doesn't make an “official” resolution, it is important to have something to strive for. This can be anything, a longing for wealth and stability, a better way of life or the desire to treat others with respect. Whatever the goal is, it's crucial that people set one and then stick to it. This shows both motivation and ambition, an attitude that rubs off on others and ultimately makes the world a better place.

I agree NY resolutions are important. Even more important is to set goals that are small& acheivable- (e.g. more veggies, less cake) and set little deadlines so you have something to shoot for. Cheers!
